Dr. Benishek Praises World War II Veterans at Honor Flight Welcome Home Ceremony

Sep 27, 2012 Issues: Veterans

ESCANABA, MI:  Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after greeting World War II veterans from Northern Michigan in Escanaba after the veterans travelled to Washington, DC to visit the World War II Memorial as part of the Honor Flight Network:

“I was deeply honored to speak with World War II veterans from Northern Michigan in Escanaba this evening after they arrived home from visiting the World War II Memorial in Washington.  From Omaha Beach to Iwo Jima, these brave men left their families to fight for our freedom and to rid the world of tyranny.

Like many in Northern Michigan, I am saddened that America is losing so many heroes from the ‘Greatest Generation’ each and every day.  The organizers and volunteers of the Honor Flight Network also deserve our praise for working so hard to ensure these veterans have a chance to see the national memorial that honors their remarkable achievements.

Northern Michigan’s many World War II veterans risked their own lives so that others in the world had a chance at freedom.  They answered the call when their country needed them the most, and our nation remains forever in their debt.”
