Dr. Benishek Praises Northern Michigan Vietnam Veterans

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI:  Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial “Moving Wall” at City Hall in Sault Ste. Marie:

“Today, I was deeply honored to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial ‘Moving Wall” while it is on display at City Hall in the Soo.   Hundreds of thousands of Michigan citizens fought in the Vietnam War, and nearly 2,700 of their names are listed on the black marble wall in Washington.  These were regular people who left their homes and families to fight for this nation’s principles and beliefs across the world.  They laid down their lives in service to their country.

We honor these selfless individuals because they sacrificed so much for us.  Their deeds and daring are emblematic of all that is good and just with our nation.  The wall is a powerful reminder that so many brave men and women never returned home from Vietnam.  And while the pain their families feel will never disappear, I believe we can take solace that their names have not been lost to the ages, but are etched in marble, and the legacy of their sacrifice endures for all time.”
