Dr. Benishek Now Accepting Summer Internships
WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Dan Benishek (MI-01) today announced that his office is now accepting applications for summer internships in his Washington, DC and First District offices.
“Congressional internships are an excellent opportunity for our young people to learn the inner workings of Congress first hand. We view our interns as an important part of our offices’ goal to provide quality service to the people of Northern Michigan,” said Benishek, a general surgeon from Iron River.
Benishek stated Congressional internship responsibilities will vary, but generally interns will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns will learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.
“Students will have the chance to learn about the day-to-day activities of Congress in a way that cannot be achieved in the classroom. We are confident we’ll have many outstanding applicants and are looking forward to having new individuals join the team,” added Benishek.
Dr. Benishek’s summer internship program will be filled in a competitive manner. Priority will be given to citizens from Michigan’s First District, but all applicants will be considered.
Applicants will be asked to submit a resume and two letters of recommendation from people who the applicant knows personally, and should attest to applicant’s character, motivation to serve, and integrity.
Interested applicants can apply online by going to www.benishek.house.gov and downloading Congressman Benishek’s internship application packet. Internships are unpaid positions, but interns in the Washington, DC office will be offered a housing stipend. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 8, 2012.
