Dr. Benishek Comments on September Unemployment Report

Oct 5, 2012 Issues: Economy and Jobs

WASHINGTON, DC:  Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor’s September jobs report indicated that national unemployment is now 7.8 percent:

“Today’s jobs report is just another reminder that President Obama’s policies have failed to create a real economic recovery in this country. Families and businesses in Northern Michigan are really hurting right now and job growth is not anywhere close to what it needs to be. We need to create more jobs and get this economy moving again.

Even Vice President Biden acknowledged a few days ago that the middle class in Northern Michigan and across America has been ‘buried’ over the last four years. The President promised a lot when he came into office but his stimulus plan has not worked. In fact, the President has made things worse. Right now, there are still over 12 million Americans out of work and the number of Americans working is at a 30 year low. That doesn’t look like a job market on the mend.

As a doctor who ran my own small business for nearly 30 years, I know we need a change of course to improve this economy. Instead of growing the federal government, let’s focus on getting Washington out of the way by limiting costly regulations, reducing the national debt, and keeping taxes low on our families and small businesses.”
