Dr. Benishek: “County Road 595 Will Create Jobs in Northern Michigan”

Sep 18, 2012 Issues: Economy and Jobs

MARQUETTE, MI:  Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) requested the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) remove its objections to the construction of County Road 595 in Marquette County:

“Today’s development is welcome news for Marquette County and all of Northern Michigan.  I enthusiastically support this project because it will create jobs in our region.  Unemployment in the Upper Peninsula is well above the national average so any new job opportunities will be helpful for Michigan families who are struggling to pay their bills and plan for their future.  I am pleased that after working closely for months with the MDEQ, EPA, and state and local officials, it appears this project is one step closer to moving forward.  Now that the MDEQ has acted, I hope that the EPA will continue working with the state to advance this critical project in an expeditious manner.”
