Congressman Benishek & Gov. Snyder Tour Upper Peninsula

Aug 13, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC:  Congressman Dan Benishek (MI-01) today began a nearly weeklong tour of Northern Michigan with Governor Rick Snyder.  The pair will be traveling the region to discuss jobs and the economy with their constituents.  During the tour, they will be joined by a number of small business owners and local officials.

“I am excited to be spending a few days on the road with Governor Snyder.  It is a great time of year to be in Northern Michigan, and I always enjoy talking with folks in my district, learning what is on their minds,” said Dr. Benishek, a native of Crystal Falls.

“Today we spent some time at Manistique Papers in Manistique.  When I first visited Manistique Papers after being sworn into office, they were on the verge of bankruptcy.  Thanks to the great efforts of the local community, banks, and elected officials, including Governor Snyder, all working together, this company was saved.  Of the nearly 150 jobs that were lost, 140 have been replaced.  It is wonderful to see Manistique Papers thriving again today.  As we continue the tour of Northern Michigan, I look forward to talking with local business owners and my constituents, learning about  their success stories and suggestions for what we can do to improve the economy in Michigan.”

Dr. Benishek and Governor Snyder finished up their day with a business roundtable and town hall in Menominee.  Dr. Benishek and Governor Snyder were joined by Sen. Tom Casperson and Rep. Ed McBroom in Menominee.  Dr. Benishek continues his tour tomorrow with a town hall in Iron Mountain.
