Veterans' Public Meeting
On October 19, I will be hosting a special veterans’ public meeting with U.S. Congressman Jeff Miller, the Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, in Elk Rapids. Chairman Miller, local Veteran Service Officers, and I will be meeting with local veterans to discuss various veterans issues, including the backlog, and provide insight about the work and focus of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. This special event is open to Northern Michigan veterans and their families.
The details of the event are:
October 19, 2012
10:00am – 11:30am EST
410 Bridge Street
Elk Rapids, Michigan
Advance notice is not required to attend this public meeting, however RSVPs are appreciated. Northern Michigan veterans may respond to my District Director, Brandon Darin, by email at brandon.darin@mail.house.gov, or by telephone at 989-448-8811.
I know many veterans in Northern Michigan are frustrated by the disability claims backlog. I am frustrated, too. Many veterans wait over a year to have their cases resolved. I have been working to fix this problem and help our veterans get their benefits much faster.
The VA claims backlog is one of many issues that will be discussed at the October 19 public meeting in Elk Rapids. We look forward to seeing many of our military veterans and thier families at the event.
